For Young Dancers Who Want More Than a Stage

A development pathway for young dancers ready to move beyond technique — into artistic identity, creative practice, and professional experience.

Contemporary Dance Performance

Beyond the Syllabus

Most dance training is excellent at building technical foundations. But there is a stage — usually between ages 12 and 18 — when a serious young dancer begins asking a different kind of question. Not can I do this step? but who am I as an artist?

The NZDAA Young Artist Programme is designed for that moment. Working alongside professional faculty and a cohort of peers, Young Artists engage in structured creative projects — performing, choreographing, creating for camera, and developing the artistic habits that define a working professional. This is not a competition programme. It is a formation programme.

A Professional Relationship, Not a Coaching Session

Every Young Artist is connected with an NZDAA faculty mentor for the duration of their programme participation. Mentorship is focused on artistic development, career awareness, and long-term pathway planning — not performance preparation.

Our faculty bring active careers in commercial performance, choreography, movement direction, and international competition. They work with Young Artists as professionals sharing craft.
